Illinois Football has another star Defensive Back in Xavier Scott

The Illini have a star in their junior safety, Xavier Scott. After an impressive first few drives on defense, the Big Ten color commentators had notably stated “Xavier Scott” at least a dozen times. In fact, Scott even started the game off with a huge interception. On top of the impressive play, former Illinois football star, Devon Witherspoon weighed in on the play. After all of that, Scott closed the first half with a pick-six to inject a jolt of lightning into Memorial Stadium.

DB U?

Illinois football has produced a handful of talented defensive backs that are currently playing in the NFL. Even before Bret Bielema arrived, players like Nate Hobbs were able to impress and earn a significant role on the Las Vegas Raiders. After Bielema arrived, the number of Illini DB’s in the NFL skyrocketed. It started off with Kerby Joseph. Joseph was a former wide receiver who shined in his year as a safety in Champaign. Joseph even started on the Detroit Lions from the get-go and has continued to play a significant role.

In addition to Joseph, Tony Adams found his way with the New York Jets. After Adams did so, the Illini had three defensive backs picked in the 2023 NFL Draft. Devon Witherspoon, Quan Martin, and Sydney Brown were all selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. On top of being selected, the trio all played significant roles for their respective teams. Look for Xavier Scott to join that bunch shortly.
