NEWS: Illini QB Luke Altmyer announces return for senior season
NEWS: Illini star quarterback, Luke Altmyer, has announced his return to Champaign.
Illini quarterback, Luke Altymer, took the stage during a timeout at the basketball game vs Tennessee. The Starkville, Mississippi native announced to the sell-out crowd that he will return for one more season in Champaign. There was certainly optimism regarding Altmyer’s return, however, in the era of NIL and the transfer portal, Altmyer could have likely made quite the killing at some of the college powerhouses. However, Luke Altmyer has started a legacy here in Champaign and he seems determined to continue to build that.
Luke Altymer just finished an outstanding junior season in Champaign. He threw for 2543 yards and 21 touchdowns with just 5 interceptions.
Building something special here in Champaign. Grateful to be part of it and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

Where to now?
The Illini will certainly make a full-throttled effort to build around Luke Altmyer. As of right now, they are hosting some talented offensive linemen to help protect their star quarback. In addition, it seems that Bret Bielema and his staff are trying to hone in on some tight-ends to help block and to serve as a security blanket in the passing game.
Most important, however, will be the efforts toward a wide receiver. The Illini star wide receivers, Pat Bryant and Zakhari Franklin are both going to be moving on to the professional ranks. Hence, landing a true number-one wide receiver will be absolutely vital.
