Could Former 5-Star Prospect Return Home to Illinois Basketball?

Former 5-star prospect, Kylan Boswell, announced that he is officially in the transfer portal. Boswell is a Champaign, Illinois native who committed to Arizona over the Illini out of high school. Boswell averaged 9.6 points, 3.6 assists, and 1.4 steals on 37.9% three-point percentage as a sophomore at Arizona. He started 35 of 36 games for the Wildcats and will have 2 years of eligibility at his next destination.

Given the Illinois basketball’s need for a lead point guard, Boswell would be an intriguing option. He plays both sides of the floor and has high major experience being a floor general.

Options on Options

Some of the names that Illinois has been involved with include Dante Maddox, Marcus Hill, AJ Storr, Selton Miguel, and Otega Oweh. All of these guys are older players who have a good amount of college basketball experience. After the loss of Jase Butler, Illinois has some space to fill. They truly need a floor general. Despite their talent and upside, Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn and Sencire Harris project best as combo-guards. There are also questions regarding Jeremiah Fears. Will the talented 5-star guard enroll with Illinois basketball a year early? Is the young guard ready to take on College basketball a year early?

Regardless, Boswell is familiar with the Champaign community and the Illinois staff. It would be an intriguing return home for the former 5-star prospect. Whichever direction both parties go in, however, options are plenty in the transfer portal era.
