Former Illini Dain Dainja has career night vs Florida Atlantic
The Former Illini continues to thrive at his new home.
The Memphis Tigers continued their strong play in the 2024-2025 season with a dominant 84-65 win over the Florida Atlantic Owls. The Tigers were led by former Illini, Dain Dainja, who had a career-high 22 points. The points were just a small part of what was an impressive stat line for the fifth-year center. Dainja ended the game with 22 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 3 steals. He had an efficient night going 8 for 13 from the field and six of seven from the free throw line.
Dain Dainja is posting career highs in all statistical categories with 12.4 ppg and 6.4 rpg in about 25 minutes a game. The former Illini played a significant role in the 2024 postseason successes and should be thanked for the Big Ten Tournament championship in 2024. If Dainja did not have 18 points vs Ohio State, the Illini may not have won that Tournament.
Former Illini Thriving
In addition to Dain Dainja, there are a number of former Illini from the 2023-2024 team doing quite well. Luke Goode just helped Indiana secure a key victory at home over Purdue and is also averaging a career-high, 9 points on 40 percent from the three. Sophomore forward, Amani Hansberry is currently averaging just under 10 points per game and 6.4 rebounds.
Perhaps seeing this trend and comparing what players they brought in, Brad Underwood will adjust his offseason recruiting tactics
