Former Illini Terrence Shannon Jr. impresses in NBA Preseason Debut
The former Illini proved that he is NBA ready.
Former Illini Terrence Shannon Jr. made his official NBA debut last night for the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Timberwolves kicked off their preseason vs the Los Angeles Lakers. It is a strong situation for Terrence as the Timberwolves are expected to compete for the top of the Western Conference behind the star power of Anthony Edwards. Terrence Shannon Jr. came off the bench for this game and played 27 total minutes. Shannon Jr. certainly flourished in his preseason debut with 14 points, four rebounds, and five assists. The former Illini had an efficient 5-11 shot profile from the field and got to the free-throw line six times.

Can Terrence Shannon Jr. be a key piece to a contender?
Terrence Shannon Jr. showed that he is NBA-ready. Despite this, he does have quite a lot of talented guards in front of him on a roster that is expected to compete. All-star Anthony Edwards leads the way, however, the Timberwolves just acquired sharpshooter, Donte DiVincenzo, from the New York Knicks. Whether Shannon Jr. gets a lot of playing time or not, it is a pretty strong experience for him to compete against these two exceptional talents every single day in practice.
Shannon Jr. is still a load in the open court and can certainly provide a spark off the bench anytime.
