Former Illini Terrence Shannon Jr. to miss at least two weeks with foot injury
The Timberwolves expect to reevaluate Shannon Jr in two weeks and will provide further updates as available.
The Minnesota Timberwolves announced on their social media pages that former Illini Terrence Shannon Jr has suffered an abductor hallucis strain in his left foot. Shannon Jr. left a game on Thursday vs the Brooklyn Nets after experiencing persistent left foot soreness. He was then taken to an MRI, which confirmed his diagnosis. Per reports, the Timberwolves will reevaluate Terrence in approximately two weeks.
It has been a difficult second season in the NBA for the former Illinois basketball star. Though Shannon Jr. had inconsistent playing time his rookie season, he showed some flashes of potential, which led to relatively high expectations heading into his second season. Unfortunately, Terrence Shannon Jr. has struggled with injury throughout most of the season. In November, he suffered a bone bruise in that same left foot, which caused him to miss nine straight games.
When he has been available, Shannon Jr has struggled off the bench. He is only averaging 4.5 points in 12.8 minutes per game this season, and head coach Chris Finch seems to favor guard Bones Hyland as one of the first guards off the bench instead of Terrence. Hopefully, Shannon Jr. can bounce back from these injuries and solidify his status as an exciting bench option for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
