Former Illinois Basketball Star Lifts Bulls Over Bucks
The Chicago Bulls are a tough watch. They currently own a pretty poor losing record and the outlook looks bleak. Their stars, DeMar Derozan and Zach Lavine, do not look like the answer. They also have not drafted well. Patrick Williams has been underwhelming. Dalen Terry has been non-existent. Coby White has been OK, but nothing close to being worthy of the 7th pick in a draft. However, Ayo Dosunmu has been awaiting his time. Dosunmu has had inconsistent minutes. However, with Zach Lavine and DeMar Derozan out with injury, Ayo Dosunmu had his chance.
Ready for the call
Ayo has had inconsistent minutes all year. However, he was able to grab the start tonight. Dosunmu delivered in an overtime thriller. Ayo put up 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists with 3 steals. Dosunmu gave the team a jolt with his defensive intensity alongside Alex Caruso. Caruso hit a buzzer beating 3 to send the game into overtime. Look, the Bulls still stink. That is very evident, however, this may open the door for Ayo Dosunmu to get more playing time.
The former Illinois Basketball star struggled in his second year as his role consistently changed. This year, Ayo has shown improvements in spot minutes. He is shooting the ball a little bit better and seems to have improved his game in the half-court. He still is not a true point guard, however I do not think he should be asked to. Ayo Dosunmu is at his best when he is looking to score and get downhill to attack the rim.
The Outlook?
Ayo Dosunmu signed a 3 year 21 million dollar extension this past summer. Obviously, the Chicago Bulls are in a precarious position. They are bound to blow up their roster at some point in time. They could very well include Ayo Dosunmu in a trade to get rid of Zach Lavine and/or DeMar Derozan. However, the management should now that they would absolutely alienate a small portion of their fanbase if they are to get rid of Ayo Dosunmu.
If Lavine and Derozan continue to sit out, Ayo Dosunmu could really show the world what he has worked on.
