Former Illini basketball star Terrence Shannon Jr impressed in his NBA debut in the 2024 Summer League. Shannon Jr. had an efficient 25 points on 9-14 from the field in 27 minutes. Terrence started off strong and even had a poster highlight dunk minutes into the game. In the end, Shannon Jr. led the team in scoring.

The former Illini has an NBA-ready body and game, hence this result is no surprise. Shannon Jr. also contributed 2 blocks and a steal on the defensive side of the ball. His team, the Minnesota Timberwolves found a way to squeak out a win over the New Orleans Pelicans. On top of that, Terrence Shannon Jr. clinched the game with a clutch bucket with a minute to go.

When Terrence Shannon Jr. was drafted, many former NBA all-stars such as Draymond Green and Jeff Teague spoke highly of Shannon Jr.’s game. Additionally, many have highlighted the mental toughness that it took to be playing at such a high level with such a dark cloud hanging over his head during the season. Shannon Jr. is playing for a contending NBA team. It will certainly be interesting to see whether he can make an impact on one of the favorites in the Western Conference.
