Illinois Basketball Coach Impresses AD Amidst Turmoil

Josh Whitman has met with the media for to address some very serious turmoil on Friday night. Whitman met with the media after Terrence Shannon Jr was charged with rape by the Lawrence Police Department. In a situation stemming from early September, news broke out on Thursday that the Illinois Basketball star was suspended indefinitely amidst the charges against him. Please know that basketball is not even a part of the conversation. Josh Whitman eloquently made that clear during his press conference.This is an extremely serious legal matter.

Josh Whitman provided a thorough timeline of the events and also made the world clear of the University of Illinois process of handling misconduct. The Illinois athletic director hinted that the world may see more clarity on this situation this weekend. There is a misconduct panel that will meet within 48 hours of the onset of the suspension.

Brad Underwood remains on the sideline.

Whitman made it very clear that he wants people who are qualified to handle this matter. Basketball coaches and staff member should very obviously take a back seat in legal matters that are extremely serious. Brad Underwood was aware of the smoke around this case. Despite this,  the administration implored coach Underwood to continue his job. Underwood has done his job very well. However, handling this matter is a different animal. Losing your best player is one occurrence, however, keeping a team focused amidst the turmoil sounds like an extremely arduous job.

Josh Whitman praised the Illinois Basketball coach. He stated that he was impressed with Underwood’s “tone” and how the team responded. Coach Underwood has a game in about half an hour, so we will see how well those words translate. Despite this, the turmoil surrounding this team and University puts Coach Underwood at such a difficult position.
