Eye on College basketball podcast picks Illinois over Tennessee
Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander both picked the Illini over Tennessee.
The CBS Sports Eye on College Basketball podcast is one of the most informative and entertaining college basketball podcasts out there. Though one of the co-hosts, Gary Parrish is not very popular amongst Illini fans specifically for how he handled the Terrence Shannon Jr. saga, the podcast is my top source for college basketball analysis and information. On their Friday episode, they like to pick who will win some of the more exciting matchups over the weekend. Of course, the Illini have the game of the weekend coming up vs the Tennessee Volunteers. Parrish and his co-host, Matt Norlander, both picked Illinois basketball to beat Tennessee in a home-game marquee matchup.
The two trusted the energy of the State Farm Center and the intriguing mix of talent on the Illini that is starting to gel.
Big Time Opportunity
Illinois basketball plays against the number one-ranked Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday at 4:30 pm CST. It marks the first time in eleven years that the Illini will host a number-one-ranked team. The last time they hosted number one, Tyler Griffey hit a buzzer-beating layup to beat the Indiana Hoosiers. It has been quite some time since the Illini picked up a marquee top-15 victory on their home floor. Thinking back to some of their last few opportunities, they have unfortunately fallen short. For example, they narrowly lost close games hosting Purdue and Marquette last year.
During the 2021-2022 season, they could not beat the number two-ranked Arizona Wildcats when they came to town. This is a massive opportunity for Illinois basketball, and hopefully, they are due for their breakthrough.
