Illinois basketball is currently hosting 7 foot 3 inch Italian Center, Luigi Suigo, for an official visit. A photo by Fox Illinois’ Carson Gourdie showed Suigo walking with assistant coaches, Orlando Antigua and Geoff Alexander. From the sound of it, Suigo will be present for the home game vs UCLAÂ which provides a number of opportunities from a recruiting perspective. First, Suigo will get to see the on-court product of fellow international big man Tomislav Ivisic. Ivisic is a focal point of the Illinois basketball offense and is used in a variety of different ways. Tomi currently averages 13.0 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game.
Also, former Illini big man, Kofi Cockburn, will have his jersey honored. Luigi Suigo will be able to see how beloved Illini greats are and how yet another big man thrived at Illinois. The environment should be strong and Cockburn can be a great sell.
Fit for the Illini
Suigo has a huge 7 foot 6 inch wingspan with a crazy standing reach. Per Derek Piper, Suigo will be a class of 2026 prospect which fits perfectly for the timeline for Illinois. They hope to keep Ivisic for the 2025-2026 season and Luigi can be the perfect replacement to place alongside star freshman Morez Johnson Jr. Per Suigo’s film, he has quite a versatile game and is able to step out to the perimeter, much like Tomislav Ivisic can.
The International pipeline has grown in recent years for the Illini. With their main players this year being international prospects, Illinois should have as good a sell to Suigo as anyone in the country.
