A week after being found not guilty of rape and sexual battery, AD Josh Whitman has made a swift decision to honor Terrence Shannon Jr.

Illinois Basketball to Honor Terrence Shannon Jr in SFC Rafters
Illinois Basketball will honor Terrence Shannon Jr with a hanged jersey in the State Farm Center Rafters. Illini Athletic Director Josh Whitman held a media roundtable and discussed the recent Not Guilty verdict Shannon Jr received just last week. He was extremely complimentary of the way Terrence handled the situation and noted that Shannon Jr had arguably one of the greatest single seasons in Illinois Basketball history. After Shannon Jr led the Illini to its best season in over a decade, this decision is certainly a no-brainer.
Though Terrence played two years in Champaign after playing three years at Texas Tech, he has left an undeniable legacy in Champaign. Despite a huge cloud looming over his head, the Illinois basketball star averaged 23.0 points per game.
So much out of #illini AD Josh Whitman’s annual media roundtable, and we will have much more in-depth stories about it on @IlliniOn247. But here are some quick key iteams. pic.twitter.com/s7eR8rYHYJ

The most recent jerseys to have been elevated to the rafters are Ayo Dosunmu and Kofi Cockburn. Dosunmu and Cockburn were both instrumental in reviving the Illini back into relevance. Shannon Jr was just as strong as an Illini as Dosunmu and Cockburn were. Additionally, he may be a first-round draft pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. If so, Shannon Jr will be the first Illini since Meyers Leonard in 2012 to hear his name called in the first round. Combining all of that with the winning that came with Terrence, Josh Whitman made the absolutely correct decision.
