Illinois basketball offers intriguing east coast power forward

AAU basketball is in full swing, and Illinois basketball recently offered three-star big man Quinn Costello. Costello tweeted (@quinncostello3) on Wednesday, June 4th:
Costello is a 6’10” power forward who received co-MVP honors at the Pangos All-American Camp last weekend. He attends The Newman School alongside Lucas Morillo, whom Illinois offered in May. The Boston native plays AAU for Middlesex Magic on the Under Armour Circuit. Recently, he has received high-major offers from the likes of Iowa, Minnesota, and Vanderbilt.
Excited to announce that I have received a Division 1 offer from The University of Illinois! I’m grateful to Coach Underwood, Coach Hamer, and the rest of the staff for this opportunity. Go Illini! pic.twitter.com/3hCQuUfP0Q

The Fit
Costello is currently ranked as the #28 power forward nationally and the #5 player in Massachusetts, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Illinois appears focused on maintaining their offensive style by targeting a big man who can stretch the floor. The Boston native is shooting 31% from three-point range and 85% from the free-throw line in the Under Armour circuit. He scored 21 points in his last game against Canada Elite, going 4-for-8 from beyond the arc.
Illinois is still looking to land its first recruit in the 2026 class, and Costello is someone to watch. The three-star prospect would bring size, rebounding, and shooting to an Illinois basketball team that may need to replace key frontcourt player’s next season.
