Illinois Basketball Picks Up Needed Quad One Victory

Illinois Basketball picks up a much-needed Quad One Victory on the road vs Ohio State Buckeyes! Though Ohio State is not very impressive, this still counts as a quad-one victory given that the Buckeyes are in the top 75 of the NET rankings. Illinois beat the Buckeyes 87-75 and picked up a very important road win for their resume. Brad Underwood and his squad are now 3-4 in quad-one games this season and also 6-4 in the first two quadrants. That is respectable for a team currently trying to solidify its NCAA tournament status.

Game notes

First off, Ty Rodgers deserves the podium. Ty was absolutely massive and brought consistent energy the entire game. The Sophomore forward had 13 points and 10 rebounds, while also going 3-3 from the free-throw line. Rodgers also brought down 4 offensive rebounds. Marcus Domask continues to show incredible consistency. Domask put up an efficient 23 points. The Illinois Basketball bench was also impressive. Coleman Hawkins and Quincy Guerrier struggled. However, Dain Dainja and Justin Harmon had efficient nights off the bench.

The freshmen also stepped up huge. Amani Hansberry and Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn impressed in their limited minutes. When Illinois needed them, the two youngsters stepped up.

The Return of Terrence

Terrence Shannon Jr had his best game since his suspension. After looking like a shell of himself during the first half, Shannon Jr continued his aggression. He finished with 23 points, with most of that total coming in the second half in response to multiple mini-runs by the Ohio State Buckeyes. Illinois Basketball is now 16-5 for the season and 7-3 in the Big Ten. They will travel home to face a Nebraska squad that is extremely hungry for another Quad-one victory.

Illinois will need their running shoes again, however, they should be ready to take the Husker’s best punch.
