Illinois Basketball “Poses A lot Of Problems”

Illinois Basketball came out on top of the Nebraska Cornhuskers in an 87-84 Overtime thriller in Champaign on Sunday. A solid win for Illinois against a Nebraska program that has taken a big step forward in 2024. The Huskers are led by former Chicago Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg, who will be in the mix for Big Ten coach of the year for the strides his team has taken. Of course, there have been ups and downs for Nebby in 2024, but a 16-7 record, and being on the road to make the NCAA Tournament is a very welcoming sight in Lincoln Nebraska.

Hoiberg’s Thoughts on Illinois Comments

Coach Hoiberg took to the podium after the disappointing overtime loss, in positive spirits about the growth of his program. Afterall, finding wins on the road has been a struggle. However, Fred thinks his team has seen what they can now do on the road versus Quad 1 opponents. The former NBA coach also made some interesting comments about the Illini.

“They pose a lot of problems with the way they play. Brad has done a phenomenal job with this roster of playing to the mismatch, and basically saying you cant guard me, and you are going to try and do it until you show us you cant.” says Fred. “Shannon back on the floor, is a one man fast Break, and is so good at drawing fouls. With Coleman Hawkins ability to shoot the ball, with their Physicality, they have great length across the board, guys off the bench that shoot the ball well, and they have great role players… They are a tough team to come back on” Hoiberg said with humor. Undoubtedly, this Illini team still has a lot to clean up before rounding out the 2024 Big Ten season, but high praise from a former NBA head coach, who is creating success for his program in the wild west of college athletics.
