Former Illinois Basketball Star Continuing to Thrive in New Role
Former Illinois Basketball star, Ayo Dosunmu, is going to get more opportunities with a key injury to the Bulls’ core.
Former Illinois Basketball star, Ayo Dosunmu, has been on a tear for the Chicago Bulls over their most recent stretch of games.
Dosunmu just did something no one in Bulls history had ever accomplished over a month: shooting 50% from the field, 40% from three, and 90% from the line. These numbers are awe-inspiring, especially considering how far Dosnumu has come with his free throw shooting. For Illinois Basketball, Dosunmu shot 75% from the free throw line, which was a little low given how exceptional of a player he was.
This could be just the start of a career breakout for Ayo, who is set to step into a bigger role now that Zach LaVine has been sidelined for the rest of the season.
Over his last 10 games, with LaVine out of the lineup, Ayo has averaged 15.8 points per game. This is almost double his average from the last two years. It’s also more in line with his production for Illinois Basketball. Obviously, with an increased scoring total comes increased shot volume. Dosunmu has shot 10 or more shots in seven straight games. He only had 8 games of double-digit shot attempts for the whole year before this recent stretch.
Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu have propelled the Bulls back to respectability after a dreadful start. Not many teams could dig themselves out of the hole the Bulls were in. However, thanks to their young guards, including the former Illinois Basketball star, they’ve found a way to win.
