Illinois basketball freshman Quentin Coleman adjusting well to college basketball

Illinois basketball made headlines before its final four matchup vs UConn by landing one of the most prized guards in the class of 2026. Five-star guard Quentin Coleman had opened up his recruitment from Wake Forest just a few weeks prior and was one of the hottest names on the prep recruiting trail. Without much drama, the Illini were able to land Coleman thanks to a stout history of guard development and perimeter play. Not only do the Illini have a sell at the guard spot, but they also have built a reputation for putting true freshmen in a position to succeed. Keaton Wagler, Will Riley, and Kasparas Jakucionis are names that stick out as true freshmen who came into college basketball and shined with the Illini.

However, with Wagler and backcourt mate Kylan Boswell, now in the NBA, there is quite a bit of expectation on Coleman. Many expect the same level of greatness that Wagler, Riley, and Jakucionis showed as freshmen.

Coleman is adjusting well to college life

Quentin Coleman spoke with WCIA’s Courtney Layne Brewer on his adjustment to college life and more. Coleman shared that he has gained 11 pounds since arriving on campus, weighing 191 pounds. He also shared that his transition is going quite well. He stated, “All the returners welcomed me in very well; the transition was very smooth. I learned a lot, and I feel like I’ve grown a lot throughout these eight weeks.”

When Quentin Coleman joined the Armchair Illini Podcast, he stated that winning takes care of everything. When asked about the pressure of replacing a guard like Keaton Wagler, he emphasized that he just wants to be the best version of himself.

With the way Quentin carries himself, there is little doubt that he will be the next great guard for Illinois basketball.
