Illinois Basketball Rumors: Assistant Coach Tim Anderson to Move on?
Illini basketball may have an assistant coach opening.
There certainly is never a dull moment in Illini athletics. Per Derek Piper of Illiniinquirer.com, Illinois basketball assistant coach, Tim Anderson, may be looking to move on. Anderson joined the Illini in 2021 and has been an ace recruiter for Brad Underwood. Coach Anderson has deep ties to the city of Chicago and is well respected as a top basketball trainer. He also has deep ties and connections within the Meanstreets AAU program. This has served Illinois basketball quite well when we think about Morez Johnson Jr. and Ty Rodgers. Additionally, coach Anderson has been helpful in landing impact transfers such as Terrence Shannon Jr and Matthew Mayer.
The reasoning is not very clear and the news is not official, however, it is pretty worrisome that Illinois will need to replace an assistant coach at the beginning of September.

Piper stated on the Tay and Piper show, “I think it is possible that he does not stay here. That is out there as buzz and discussion.” Piper then went on to say that “resolution should come here pretty soon” and that he would not be “surprised if he moves on.”
That should be pretty telling that Illinois Basketball will lose one of their top assistants. Per our sources, Anderson is a candidate for the Memphis Tigers assistant coaching job.
