Former Illinois Basketball Star Terrence Shannon Jr. to Sue Douglas county DA/PD
Per multiple sources, former Illinois Basketball star, Terrence Shannon Jr. and his mother, Treanette Reading, will be suing the Douglas County District Attorney and Police Department. Shannon Jr. was accused of sexual battery on December 29th, 2023, and was found innocent after trial on June 13th. Per Attorney Mitch Gilfillan, Terrence and his family are going to sue for millions of dollars.
Shannon Jr. was robbed of multiple awards in the college basketball season due to the ongoing case. He also likely had his NBA draft stock affected in some way as the resolution occurred just a few weeks before the 2024 NBA draft. The time put into this case and the overall defamation of Shannon Jr’s name makes for a strong case for him to sue.
Filing a claim against a Kansas municipality has much stricter requirements than standard personal injury claims. This claim is subject to the Kansas Tort Claims Act (K.S.A. 12-105b(d)).
I confirmed the filing from a source in Douglas County. Details unfolding.

What’s next?
Terrence Shannon Jr. was selected 29th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was absolutely electric in the 2024 summer league and showed flashes that he is NBA-ready. Not to mention, he ended off the regular season in absolutely dominant fashion. During the Big Ten tournament, Shannon Jr. averaged an amazing 34.0 points per game. The case that was put against him was extremely poorly organized and poorly put together.
Terrence and his family endured a lot during the 6 months that this case was ongoing. There is no surprise that he and his family have chosen to pursue this option.
