Illinois football announces media day representatives
The Illini will be represented by three senior star players.
After a historic ten-win season in 2024, Illinois football enters the 2025 season with high expectations. Now, there is a clear target on their back as they are emerging as one of the up-and-coming programs out of the Big Ten conference. In just a few weeks, Big Ten Media Day will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, from July 22nd to 24th. Head coach Bret Bielema will be accompanied by three of his senior star players.
OT J.C. Davis
Davis was an anchor on the Illinois offensive line last year. Bret Bielema notably travelled all the way to Oakland, California, just to sell Davis on what another year at Illinois football could do for his career. Davis chose to return, alongside every other starter on the offensive line, during the Citrus Bowl win. As a leader and no-doubt pro prospect, J.C. Davis is an obvious choice to represent Illinois football in Vegas.
DB Xavier Scott
Illinois typically picks at least one defensive player to represent the team in media day. Scott is also an obvious choice. His return means a lot to a defense looking to build on a rebound year. During the 2024 season, Xavier Scott had a breakout year. He totalled 49 tackles, six pass deflections, and four interceptions. If he can have yet another strong year, Scott will be the next defensive back to represent the “DB U” theme that Illinois has built these past few years.
QB Luke Altmyer
Luke Altmyer returns as one of the top quarterbacks in all of college football. Despite lucrative efforts from SEC programs to sway him away from Champaign, Altmyer chose loyalty and an Illini legacy. If he can lead the program to another productive season, Altmyer may very well go down as one of the best Illinois quarterbacks of all time. During his year in 2024, Luke Altmyer threw for 2,717 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
Spun the Strip. Landed straight Illini.
