Impact on Illinois Football
The 6’7″ junior is a strong, homegrown addition to offensive line coach Bart Miller’s unit. In addition to being a mauler on the gridiron, Thomann plays basketball for East Richland High School (in Olney) – and it shows on tape. He is a physical presence at offensive tackle but also showcases an impressive combination of speed and agility, allowing him to get to the second level and make a block on streaking linebackers.
Some time in Tank Wright’s strength program will be essential before Casey sees the field for major snaps in the Big Ten. However, his massive frame and raw athletic potential give the coaching staff plenty to work with in the meantime.
Now the 10th commit of Illinois’ 2026 class, the Southern Illinois native helps propel the Illini into the top five of the 247Sports team recruiting rankings, checking in right at No. 5. Yes, it’s still very early, and as the year progresses, it’s going to become more of a struggle for Illinois to maintain a top-10 status. Regardless, The Illini continue to remain in good company, slowly pushing themselves up the ranks of relevance.
