Illinois football news: 4-star LB Grant Beerman announces Illini commitment

Illinois football landed a big-time commitment on Thanksgiving morning at a huge position of need—four-star linebacker, Grant Beerman, who was initially committed to Purdue, announced his commitment to the Illini. Linebacker is one of the top positions of need for Illinois and Beerman, a four-star prospect, is a massive get. The composite rankings have Beerman as the number 436th-ranked prospect in the class of 2025 and the number 47 linebacker.

He is a no-doubt power-five prospect and holds offers from Michigan State, Purdue, Indiana, Minnesota, and more. As it stands right now, Beerman is the highest-ranked prospect in the Illini class of 2025.

What it means?

First off, the Illini won a power-five battle at a major position of need. Even when current starter, Dylan Rosiek, who suffered a season-ending injury, was healthy, the Illini were razor-thin at the linebacker position.

Illinois football is now a winning program. They currently sit at 8-3, and that means something on the recruiting trail. Purdue is currently 1-10 and Ryan Walters’s seat is as hot as any right now. Grant Beerman marks the fifth “flip” commitment in the class of 2025. Bret Bielema and his staff have flipped DB Tywan Cox from USF, TE Logan Farrell from North Carolina, TE Grant Smith from Illinois State, and OL JJ Hirdes from Western Michigan.
