Illinois Football news: Punter Hugh Robertson enters Transfer portal

Illinois football received news that their starting punter, Hugh Robertson, has decided to enter the transfer portal. Robertson was the starting punter for the Illini for the past three years and will have one more year of eligibility at his next spot. Junior kicker, Fabrizio Pinton replaced the Australian punter in the latter part of the season and looks to be the favorite for the starting punter position next year. In addition to Robertson entering the transfer portal, Illinois football also lost young in-state punter, Declan Duley.
Per Joey Wagner of Illini Inquirer, Robertson averaged 41.1 yards per punt. He is certainly an older college football player at 31 years old hence it will be interesting to see if Robertson decides on a new home or just decides to hang up the football cleats.
Outlook for the Illinois football special teams room
Moving forward, it will be interesting to see if Illinois football decides to recruit another punter to the room. Pinton was better than Robertson, however, suffered a lower leg injury towards the end of the season. In terms of place kicking, David Olano and Ethan Moczulski seem locked in as the two kickers who will split duties. Olano seems to be more accurate, while Moczulski has the bigger leg as proven by his 59-yard field goal this year.
