Illinois football news: Top 2026 TE Mack Sutter includes Illini in top five

NEWS: Illinois football has made the top five schools on talented in-state tight end Mack Sutter, Per a news article by Hunter Shelton of On3sports, Sutter released a top five of Illinois, Penn State, Ohio State, Alabama, and Ole Miss. The junior at Dunlap High School will start his official visit series on April 11th with a trip to Champaign, Illinois. He then reportedly will Ole Miss, Ohio State, and Penn State, and finish out with Alabama in June.

The Illini have a unique opportunity to catch Sutter with the first official visit. However, he has quite an impressive list of official visits. Though Illinois football has had an impressive stretch of recruiting news in the class of 2026, landing Sutter is another level of recruitment.

Potential impact

Per 247sports, Illinois Football’s class of 2026 so far 6th overall recruiting class in the country. They have nine recruits committed so far, with two of those nine being in-state recruits. Three-star prospects, Jacob Alexander and Davon Grant are power-five prospects who will contribute to the Illini when they get on campus. However, when you’re battling blue bloods such as Alabama, Penn State, and Ohio State, that itself will be interesting to pull off.

Despite this, Illinois is also recruiting fellow central Illinois Tight End from Mt Zion, JC Anderson. Anderson, like Sutter, is a four-star prospect who owns offers from the best of the best. It just seems fitting that Bret Bielema will land a top in-state Tight end from Central Illinois at some point during his time in Champaign. Hopefully, Sutter and/or Anderson are the ones to fulfill that prophecy.
