Illinois Football news: Top-400 Prospect Kaedyn Cobbs Commits to Illini

NEWS: The recruiting continues to shine for the Illinois Fighting Illini Football team. Week after week, Illinois football continues to land impressive recruits with legitimate power-five offers. This time, the top-400 overall prospect per 247sports, Kaedyn Cobbs, announced his commitment to the Illini. Cobbs is a 3-star prospect currently listed as a safety on 247sports, however, has the versatility to play both the linebacker spot and at safety. Kaedyn had offers from Nebraska, Baylor, and Oklahoma State. After linebacker became a glaring position of need over the 2024 season, linebackers coach Archie McDaniel has helped reel in an impressive linebacker group in the class of 2026. Cobbs’ commitment to Illinois football is a monumental add alongside four-star linebacker prospect Cam Thomas.

In addition, the Illini have added four-star prospect Grant Beerman and three-star in-state linebacker, Jack Paris, to their class of 2025.

The Block I is hot

We keep saying this but it holds true. This class of 2026 is poised to be one of the best classes in Illinois football history. Cobbs is the ninth commitment in the class of 2026, a class that is currently ranked number 8 in the nation per 247sports. Bret Bielema is truly taking full advantage of the positive momentum and energy behind his program. He has landed some truly impressive prospects on the defensive side of the ball and has helped fill in some gaps at positions of need. Look for Bret and his staff to try to reel in some impressive offensive prospects in the coming months.
