Illinois Football Expected to Face A Rocking Environment

Illinois Football is taking week 4 to Lincoln, Nebraska, as they look to keep their winning streak alive vs Matt Rhule, and the #22 ranked Cornhuskers. Additionally, Friday’s matchup marks the first road test of the year for the Fighting Illini.

Certainly, not an easy test either, as the Huskers fans bring one of the toughest environments in all of college football.

It was announced Monday (9/16) that Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium will be 85,000+ deep for the Husker’s 400th consecutive sellout of Memorial Stadium. A streak that impressively began for Nebraska Football fans in 1962. Undoubtedly, it is a major testament to the Huskers fanbase, who much like the Illini, have faced their fair share of highs, and of course, plenty of lows as well.

 A Huge Test

Illinois matchup with Cornhuskers also marks the first top-25 matchup hosted in Nebraska Memorial Stadium since 2013. The 24th Ranked Illini seek to pull off another big upset over talented true freshman QB Dylan Riola, and the 3-0 Huskers. It is going to be a battle and a redemption game for head coach Bret Bielema.

Illinois offense flopped vs the Huskers a season ago and dropped a really bad 20-7 loss in Champaign. They lost a major swing game at home versus a very beatable team (5-7 in 2023). The Illini themselves went 5-7 in 2023, and many fingers pointed to this winnable game that they dropped.

This Friday, Illinois better be ready for the madhouse at Lincoln.
