Pair of Illinois Basketball Transfers Commit to West Virginia
Illinois Basketball has gone through quite a roster overhaul in a matter of weeks. They have hit the transfer portal hard and have added some major talent. Kylan Boswell, Tre White, Carey Booth, and Jake Davis all have sizeable upside and multiple years of eligibility. On the flip side of that, Illinois basketball lost their assistant coach, Chester Frazier, in addition to Dain Dainja, Amani Hansberry, and Sencire Harris. Dain Dainja’s transfer was no surprise, as the big man showed that he is ready for a role Illinois could not provide for him.
When Chester Frazier surprisingly chose to leave Champaign for West Virginia, it only became more obvious that he would bring two talented players from Illinois with him. That turned out to be true
No Surprises
Frazier quickly brought in Sencire Harris and Amani Hansberry on official visits after officially joining the West Virginia coaching staff. After their official visits, Hansberry and Harris committed to the Mountaineers in a very quick fashion. Harris and Hansberry were talented out-of-state players who came to Illinois largely due to their relationship with Chester Frazier. Both did not play a significant role this past year, however, were certainly guys who showed that they can contribute at the high-major level. Hansberry showed that he can be one of the best rebounders in the country, however, was slowed by a nagging back injury.
Sencire Harris will bring a jolt of energy on the defensive side of the ball. He is not a reliable shooter but has plus athleticism that will serve him well. Both players are bound for success. Though it stinks that it is not in the Orange and Blue, both are showing loyalty to their primary recruiter.
