Suspended Illinois Basketball Star to Hear Decision Soon
The last 48 hours have been an absolute nightmare for Illinois Basketball fans. Before I delve into the news, I must make it abundantly clear that this is never going to be about basketball. The actions that are involved in this case are deplorable as sexual misconduct has no place in this world. Josh Whitman spoke on Friday night before Illinois basketball took the floor at home against Farleigh Dickinson. Whitman gave a comprehensive rundown of how the University of Illinois handles misconduct. He also provided some details about Terrence Shannon Jr’s case specifically.
Long story short, Josh Whitman stated that the University of Illinois has a misconduct panel that will meet within 48 hours of the onset of suspension. The suspension officially kicked in on the AM on 12/28, meaning that more clarity will arrive this weekend.
Basketball is the least of concerns.
Discipline and justice must be at the forefront of this matter. Josh Whitman clearly provided details that the University of Illinois has a zero-tolerance policy for sexual misconduct. In response to the various questions laid out to him by the Illinois beat, Whitman stated that it is “possible” that Terrence Shannon Jr’s playing status could be decided before Legal resolution takes place. As Josh Whitman emphasized, legal resolution of these cases could possibly take months or a full year to resolve.
With Shannon's suspension kicking in yesterday, that began a 48-hr window for the misconduct panel to begin their review & then their decision will stand until legal resolution.
Whitman did clarify that new information could cause them to reconvene.
