Which New Illinois Football Helmet Is The Fan Favorite?

The Illinois Football program announced that the team will be sporting some new uniform additions in 2024. After years of fans asking for a nostalgic, throwback look, Illini AD Josh Whitman and the Illinois Athletics Department finally delivered. On Tuesday, (5/28) the Illinois Football X account (@IlliniFootball) made a post announcing 3 exciting new helmet combinations for this upcoming Fall. With 2024 being the 100th year anniversary of Memorial Stadium’s operation, Illini Athletics wanted to roll out a special set of uniform combos for the team.

The Illinois Athletics post on X  concerning the new helmets states, “Something special for the 100th. This year, for the 100th Anniversary of Memorial Stadium’s dedication, we will feature different eras on our helmet design.”

Of course, the question is, which new lid is the Illini fan favorite?

Opinion: Kirkland Chappell – Of course, it’s the script “Illinois” for me. I grew up in the Juice Williams and Nathan Scheelhaase era of Illinois Football. Certainly, the nostalgia factor is fantastic and brings back tons of childhood memories. Was it always the best football? Absolutely not. However, there are some very memorable games and seasons that come to mind for me when I see these helmets. How can you not think about Juice dicing up the entire Ohio State defense to take down the Buckeyes 28-21 in 2007? There are strong arguments and opinions for each of the 3 new helmet additions on social media. However, it seems the script helmet is getting the most love.
