Former Illinois Basketball Player Becomes Police Officer
Da’Monte Williams was a memorable player for the University of Illinois. Williams was that glue guy who just did all of the small things. He rebounded, played defense on every position on the court, and was always at the right spot for Illinois Basketball. Williams played an important role in his five years at the University of Illinois. He graduated from the University in 2021, and tried his hand at international basketball. However, Williams decided to hang up the basketball shoes. Recently, he graduated from the University of Illinois police training institute and was sworn in as a Police officer.
Brad Underwood tweeted his congratulations for one of his first recruits to announce his trust.
So proud of @DAWilliams14 & his journey! Was the first in home visit I ever did as the head coach at Illinois & now a graduate of the Police Training Institute.
His desire to learn & ability to listen not only made him a good teammate but a great person. Peoria has so much to be… pic.twitter.com/qwthGGqH8o

Fulfilling a Legacy
Da’Monte is the son of one of Illinois Basketball’s legends, Frank Williams. Da’Monte Williams was one of Coach Underwood’s favorites because of his ability to do the dirty work. Williams was asked to guard the opposing players’ power forwards. That is quite the ask for a 6 foot 3 inch shooting guard. Despite this, Williams was surprisingly successful doing this. He was a key cog on the 2020-2021 team due to his shooting and ability to defend. Da’monte Williams was the ultimate “glue guy”. He will now serve his community as a Police officer.
Truly a Peoria Legend.
Happy Monday to everyone, especially Da'Monte Williams pic.twitter.com/pr4EUk8D7k
