Former Illini Terrence Shannon Jr. Assigned to G-League Affiliate

Per the Minnesota Timberwolves, first-round draft pick, Terrence Shannon Jr. has officially been assigned to the G-league Affiliate, the Iowa Wolves. The former Illini was the Timberwolves’ first-round draft pick this year, however, has had an extremely limited role thus far. Despite a strong summer league showing, Shannon Jr. has not been able to see the floor mostly due to the deep backcourt of the Timberwolves. The Timberwolves have superstar, Anthony Edwards, leading the backcourt, and quality role players in Mike Conley Jr., Donte DiVincenzo, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker.
Heading to the G-league is an ideal move for Shannon Jr. as he will more than likely see heavy minutes. A lot of the players who featured for the Timberwolves in the 2024 Summer League such as Daishen Nix, Jaylen Clark, and Leonard Miller are all playing over 30 minutes per game for the Iowa Wolves.
The business of the NBA
Terrence Shannon Jr. was arguably the best perimeter player in college basketball last year. However, the NBA is a tough business to crack. Also, Shannon Jr. landed on a Western Conference contender, which makes his journey to the court even more difficult. This makes Ayo Dosunmu’s heavy role with the Chicago Bulls all the more impressive. As of now, Dosunmu has been playing between 25-30 minutes almost every game since his rookie season.
Shannon Jr. will join fellow teammates, Quincy Guerrier, Marcus Domask, and Justin Harmon in the G-league. Guerrier starts for his team, Raptors 905. Otherwise, Domask and Harmon have struggled to find the floor during the first games of the season.
