Illinois Fighting Illini

Illinois basketball will use this game as an opportunity to improve. They need as many opportunities as possible to gel on the court before an absolute monster of a non-conference schedule. The Illini topped the Butler Bulldogs in a closed-door scrimmage a few weeks ago. Head Coach Brad Underwood has challenged his team on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he is looking for that “closer”. Ayo Dosunmu was that guy for a few years, whilst  Terrence Shannon Jr. and Marcus Domask were those guys last year. This year’s closer is unclear despite a boatload of talent. Will freshman phenom, Kasparas Jakucionis, take the reigns? Will it be Evansville transfer Ben Humrichous?

On the defensive side, Illinois basketball will finally have their true 7 footers in the game. Newcomer Tomislav Ivisic will finally see some game action despite not receiving full clearance from the NCAA.

Ole Miss Rebels

Second-year coach Chris Beard is looking to return to the winner’s circle. In his first year, Beard led the Rebels to a respectable 20-12 record. Beard returns some key pieces to his team, however, and is looking to take that next step. Matthew Murrell and Jaemyn Brakefield are fifth-year guys looking to get their first taste of the NCAA tournament. Chris Beard is respected as a top-notch basketball coach at the high major level. Perhaps this Ole Miss team can take on Beard’s identity as a tough, rugged squad and make it to the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
