Illini Basketball Podcast EP 172: 2023-24 Season Preview & Predictions

As announced earlier this week, we want to welcome the Illini Basketball Podcast to the Armchair Illini family. I am super excited to welcome these talented guys to our team. They dropped their first episode as part of the Armchair Illini family where they discussed the upcoming season and some predictions for this coming season. Ethan and Tyler also discussed the recent Ottawa exhibition.

The fellas hit on Marcus Domask pretty well who looks to take on the role of a glue guy. In the exhibition, he just did all of the little things that never happened last year. Whether it was consistent effort on the offensive glass or dropping a skip pass right in the shooter’s pocket, Marcus Domask did it all. Domask and Luke Goode do a great job of complimenting Ty Rodgers, Coleman Hawkins and Terrence Shannon Jr in the starting lineup. Both players provide a level of spacing and basketball savvy that will open up plenty of lanes for the other three.

Both guys have pretty similar Big Ten records as predictions. 13-7 may seem tough, however given how even the Big Ten is in the middle of the pack, that is quite the record. Remember, Purdue won the league going 15-5. 2 games off that mark is actually pretty good.

In terms of breakout players, Ty Rodgers is the heavy favorite amongst Illini fans, however Dain Dainja has a chance to assert his dominance coming off the bench.
