Illini Football Sophomore WR Malik Elzy looks to bring fresh mindset

Illini sophomore wide receiver, Malik Elzy, came in with a lot of high expectations. The Four-star Chicago native committed to Illinois during the Under Armour all-American game over some impressive offers. Elzy was a huge in-state recruiting win and many expected to come onto campus to contribute right away. However, that really is not how college football works. It is a slow process that takes time and a lot of mental toughness to develop into a college football great.
Elzy seems to have come to terms with that and offered a fresh mindset when speaking to media members.
Sophomore leap?
Despite not seeing the field much, Elzy showed some promise during his freshman campaign. In the game vs Penn State, Malik hauled in three passes and caught one touchdown. Malik credited veterans who have now moved on to the National Football League, such as Casey Washington and Isaiah Williams in his growth. “There’s going to be ups and down, you just got to keep pushing. You get to do this, you don’t have to do this” said Elzy.
Without a doubt, Malik Elzy is one of the Illini’s brightest stars. He will certainly have quite the career in orange and blue.
