Former Illini QB Tommy DeVito Named Starter For New York Giants

Former Illini quarterback Tommy DeVito has been named the starter in New York, replacing current Giants QB1 Daniel Jones. Head coach Brian Daboll explained the decision as an effort to ignite the team amid a 2-8 record, in addition to consistently poor offensive production from Jones.

There is a strong chance this is the end of Jones’ time in NYC, as his inconsistency and a much-debated $160,000,000 contract have presented a crossroads for the organization. The decision underscores the Giants’ aim to rebuild momentum and reevaluate their long-term quarterback plans.

Prior to the draft in March, could the ex-Illini quarterback provide enough spark for the Giants’ offense to prove himself as a long-term option in The Big Apple? Daboll is going to give the New Jersey native a shot.

“So, we’re making a quarterback switch here from Daniel (Jones), and we’re going to go with Tommy (DeVito). I spoke with all the quarterbacks the morning, before our morning meeting, let them know the direction that we’re going. Those are never easy conversations, got a lot of respect for all three of those guys. You know, after evaluating a bunch of things and evaluating a lot of tape, and being around Tommy last year when he created a little bit of a spark for us, that’s the reason why we’re going with Tommy.”

Daboll Furthermore stated, “It’s never an easy conversation to have with the players, but, felt like this was a necessary move for us, and look forward to working with Tommy, and getting him ready to go against Tampa.
