Illinois Football News: Week 13 Injury Report Update
Coach Bielema shares his rosters latest injury updates, as the Illini gear up for their Week 13 road game at Rutgers.
Updated Health Status of Illinois Football, Per Bret Bielema
After back-to-back tough losses, No. 24 Illinois Football used their second bye week to regroup and refocus, leading to a strong Week 12 performance vs Michigan State. A 38-16 victory marked Illinois’ third win over teams from Michigan this season (Central Michigan, Michigan, Michigan State), completing a clean sweep of Big Ten foes from the Great Lakes State.
The bye week allowed the Illini to get healthy, and recover some starters, which was key in Saturday’s matchup. According to Coach Bret Bielema, the team remains in good health as they gear up for Rutgers during the final stretch of the season.
Week 13 IR Update From Bielema
Malik Elzy – WR
“I do think Malik Elzy we are going to expect him go practice tomorrow. I don’t know how much it’ll be, but he is cleared to practice tomorrow. He passes through his running, and everything yesterday, and today. So, we’ll get him out there.”
Joe Barna – DL
“Also, Joe Barna will be involved in individual drills and skelly tomorrow. So, if that progresses, I think he’ll be cleared for Wednesday. ”
Demetrius John – DL
“Demetrius John also had a hamstring that flared up last week. He practiced and ran today with the trainers. Should have him back out there also.”
Daniel Brown – DL
“Another guy that we’ve been waiting to get out there, Daniel Brown, has been battling through some back issues and has really progressed here. We thought we’d get him back during the second bye week, and he’s been limited and bringing himself back. So, he’s a guy who led the JUCO world two years ago and is the most productive sack hitter. So, to have him come into the outside linebacker room will be really good. ”
Tyson Rooks – DB
“We did lose T-Rooks (Tyson Rooks) during the course of the game. He got his ankle rolled up a little bit. I do think he’s got a chance to come back Friday for the travel, and Saturday for the game. So, we’ll see where that plays out.”
