Ever since Katin Houser chose to come to Illinois, fans and coaches have raved about his exceptional potential and viewed him as a seamless fit to replace Illini legend Luke Altmyer. On the Illini’s opening night, Houser certainly answered the bell and confirmed the hype.

Houser finished the game 13-17 for 182 yards and three touchdowns. Two of his four incompletions were dropped passes. Houser’s decision-making, accuracy, and quick processing skills make him the perfect fit for Barry Lunney Jr’s offensive system.

The next great Illini QB

Katin Houser looks fully poised to be the next great Illini QB. Bret Bielema and Barry Lunney Jr have completely changed the quarterback room during their time at Illinois. It started in 2022 with Tommy DeVito and continued the next three seasons with Luke Altmyer.

Houser put on a clinic vs UAB; however, the competition only steps up from here. The Illini host Duke next week at Gies Memorial Stadium and must be ready for a stout Manny Diaz-led defense. The target will surely be on Katin Houser as the season progresses, as teams will look for a way to rattle the fifth-year quarterback.

However, after the performance Katin Houser put on vs UAB, we can rest assured knowing we have one of the best QB’s in the country.
