Illinois Basketball: Brad Underwood, An All-Around Winner
Illinois head coach Brad Underwood is a proven winner on and off the field. Recently, Coach Underwood was able to take his 2023-24 Fighting Illini squad all the way to the Elite 8. The first for Illinois Basketball since the legendary 2005 National runner-up team. Now, without any time to take a deep breath, Brad Underwood is in the heart of building his 2024-25 roster. Which, has major holes to fill. Locking down Arizona PG Kylan Boswell, Notre Dame Forward Carey Booth, Mercer Wing Jake Davis, and Louisville guard Tre White. Already, a heck of a step in the right direction for Illinois Basketball once again. One may ask…. as busy as Brad’s life is right now, what the heck does he do in his sparse spare time?
Underwood Impact – Kickin’ Cancer
Off the field, the Illini coach has been doing his part to better the local community. Brad Underwood is the annual host of the Kickin’ Cancer fundraiser. Of course, a fantastic fundraising event for Illinois Basketball, and fans, in partnership with Coaches vs Cancer. This is now the 10th year Illinois Basketball is apart of this annual event. Furthermore, the event is aimed at raising money to assist the American Cancer Society. With Coach Underwood’s help, along with the strong support of the citizens of Central Illinois, the event was able to raise $501,694. Major credit to Brad Underwood, and the Illini community for their efforts on such an impactful event.
Surely, we all know someone who has been affected by cancer. To see a coach with little time, and so much responsibility use his platform for good, to help our community. Truly, it’s an incredible testament to his character. Certainly, hats off to Brad Underwood. The definition of a winner. Of course, an even bigger hats off to the Kickin Cancer event, for their largest and most successful event yet, with a turnout of 1700 in Gordyville.
