Illinois Basketball center Tomislav Ivisic to miss time with Mono
The Illini will miss their starting center for Sunday’s game vs Northwestern.
When it rains it pours. Illinois basketball head coach Brad Underwood made it known today that starting center Tomislav Ivisic will miss Sunday’s game against Northwestern and has been diagnosed with Mononucleosis. Ivisic missed Thursday’s game vs Maryland, despite playing through illness last week vs Michigan State. It is certainly a big blow to Illinois basketball who desperately need a win after losing three of their last four. Depth is starting to become an issue as it seems there are also some players who are recovering from bouts of the Flu. The Maryland Terrapins came into the State Farm Center and scored over 60 points in the paint vs the Illini. Ivisic averages 13.0 ppg and 8.5 rpg.
Without Ivisic, the Illini will heavily lean upon true freshman Morez Johnson Jr., Ben Humrichous, and Jake Davis.
BREAKING: Illinois' Tomislav Ivisic has been diagnosed with mono and is OUT, per Brad Underwood.

What’s next on the schedule?
After Northwestern, the Illini will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Since Ivisic has Mono, typically athletes are out for at least 2-3 weeks as they are at risk for Splenic rupture. If they are still having fevers, that puts them at even greater risk. Assuming this past week was Ivisic’s first week out, he is at risk of missing the Nebraska game and games vs Ohio State and Rutgers.
Hopefully, the Illini can hold serve until they hopefully get Tomislav back in the early weeks of February.
