Illinois basketball competing for five-star prospect Dylan Mingo

College basketball recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw of On3 reported today that Illinois is still in the mix for five-star prospect Dylan Mingo. Mingo is coming off a standout showing at the NBPA Top 100 Camp. That was where he delivered an impressive stat line of 29 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. He told Shaw that he has been in contact with Alabama, Illinois, Missouri, Louisville, and North Carolina about setting up official visits.
In addition, he stated this about Illinois:
“They reach out a lot, so that is good. Now it’s about watching their past guards and seeing how they develop in the pros, and how I would do the same thing if I went there.”
Illinois offered the five-star prospect back in December and has kept him as a priority for the 2026 class. He is a 6’5” point guard ranked as the #1 player in New York. Mingo is the No. 9 prospect nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
On3 is the highest on Mingo of any recruiting service, ranking him as the #4 player in the class of 2026 in their latest Top 150.
Can Illinois basketball land a big fish?
The 6’5” guard is from Glen Head, New York, and attends Long Island Lutheran High School. Illinois assistant coach Orlando Antigua has had success recruiting New York-born players, having competed at a high level in that region himself.
Mingo plays AAU basketball for the PSA Cardinals on the EYBL circuit. Thus far, he has been one of the best performers this year. He currently ranks #2 in steals per game, #3 in defensive rebounds per game, #3 in performance index rating, and #5 in efficiency. He has also demonstrated his rebounding ability by recording two double doubles.
The five-star prospect has yet to take an official visit, but Illinois is expected to push to get him on campus this fall. The Illini landed their highest-ranked recruit ever last season when Will Riley committed, but if Mingo chooses Illinois, he would surpass Riley as the highest-ranked recruit in program history.
