Illinois Basketball Forward is a Double-Double machine

Terrance Shannon Jr. returned to the court today for the Illinois Basketball, however, he was not the star of the show in chilly Central Illinois. Oregon transfer Quincy Guerrier secured his 7th career double-double vs Big Ten opponent Rutgers. The Montreal native’s 5th double-double since transferring to Illinois. Number 7 for Quincy came in a strong performance for a sold-out State Farm Center vs Steve Pikiell’s Scarlett Knights. Guerrier finished the afternoon with 15 points and 11 rebounds in 30 minutes of gameplay. This led to all smiles for the 6’8 Illini Forward. Of course, there were smiles all around in Champaign, as the Illini snagged a 23-point win in style.

Comments From Underwood

It is apparent that steps have been taken forward for Quincy if he can secure five elusive double-doubles so early into 2024. “Maturity” is what Guerrier believes attributes to his success, but coach Brad Underwood has his own beliefs. When asked what has contributed to such growth from Guard Justin Harmon and Forward Quincy Guerrier, Coach Underwood stated “I think we’ve got a lot of guys around them that have helped them.” He also states “With Quincy, he had another double-double. I challenge him every day to get 15 rebounds, and be an elite defender,” says the Illini Coach. Certainly, Guerrier has taken to the Underwoods challenge, and locked in as a very solid defender in the Big Ten. Not to mention the spark in 3-point shooting Quincy has provided throughout the young season. “He does everything we ask.” States Underwood. As to how Quincy has taken such a step forward, “It’s total acceptance and total buy-in.” says the Illini Head Coach.
