Former Illini Niccolo Moretti breaks out in season opener

Former Illinois basketball guard, Niccolo Moretti, shined in his season debut for the Florida Atlantic Owls. In just 21 minutes, the Italian point guard had 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists on 7-9 from the field and 3-4 from 3-pt land. The flashy floor-general certainly made a name for himself last night as he led the team in scoring. That 19-point total is 8 points less than the total amount of points he scored during his time in Champaign. It looks like Nico picked the right situation and level for him as FAU actually beat a quality opponent in Indiana State.
Former Illini playing well
Moretti played for the Illini for a year and a half for limited minutes before ultimately transferring to Florida Atlantic this past offseason. The highlight of his time was certainly the 17 minutes that he played in a home game vs Iowa. In that game, Moretti had nine points, including two huge three-point buckets. Moretti was one of six transfers from Illinois basketball this past offseason.
Dain Dainja, who now plays for Memphis, had 6 points and 8 rebounds in his debut vs Missouri. Sencire Harris and Amani Hansberry now start for West Virginia Basketball. Hansberry had 9 points and 12 rebounds in his debut. Tonight, Coleman Hawkins will make his debut for the Kansas State Wildcats.
