Illinois Basketball in Top 3 of Former Top 100 Recruit

Per ESPN’s Jeff Borzello, Illinois Basketball is in the top 3 for San Francisco transfer, Mike Sharavjamts. Sharavjamts is a former ESPN top 100 recruit who will decide between Illinois, Saint Mary’s and Utah. Mike is a 6 foot 8 inch wing who initially played his freshman year at Dayton. Per the 247sports composite rankings, he was the top ranked player in the state of Ohio and 93rd prospect overall. He ultimately transferred to San Francisco where he started all 34 games. He played a strong game against the sole Big Ten opponent that he played last year. Mike Sharavjamts had 13 points and 3 steals against the Minnesota Gophers on November 26th.

Sharavjamts averaged 7.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists on 36 percent three point shooting.

The search for a wing

Illinois Basketball has been adamant in its pursuit of a perimeter scorer on the wing. This makes total sense given that they lose Terrence Shannon Jr and Marcus Domask to the professional ranks. Brad Underwood has to replace a whole lot of perimeter scoring and has done an admirable job so far. The frontcourt looks like it has been successfully repleted, however, you can never have too much perimeter help. Sharavjamts projects as a strong shooter and a strong complimentary piece that would bring positional size.

The Mongolian wing has solid length and appears to have quite a bit of strength to gain should he come to Illinois and the Big Ten.
