Illinois Basketball Freshman Featured in Gatorade Ad

Illinois basketball freshman, Will Riley, is already bringing national attention.

Illinois basketball is becoming a national brand.
Illinois Fighting Illini forward Quincy Guerrier (13) shoots a free throw during the NCAA men’s basketball game against the Purdue Boilermakers, Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Ind. Purdue Boilermakers won 83-78.

Illinois Basketball freshman, Will Riley, picked the Illini over some impressive offers such as Kentucky, Alabama, and Arizona. During the early parts of the summer, Riley opened the world’s eyes with his smooth perimeter game and effortless scoring ability. Afterward, Illinois basketball found a way to get Riley to come to campus. Though it seemed like a stretch, buzz started to pick up that the Illini may actually be a player for the five-star phenom. Shortly thereafter, Riley announced his commitment to Illinois and immediately reminded everyone that the Illini had become a national brand.

Illinois Basketball and Gatorade?

That sentiment continued as Riley’s commitment was featured on a Gatorade Ad Campaign called “Is it in you”. In the video, Riley’s parents give a behind the scenes on their son’s basketball history and his rapid recruitment.

The video ends with Riley walking into Ubben almost like a superstar. Recently, strength and conditioning coach, Adam Fletcher, compared Riley’s physical stature to former Illinois Basketball star, Ayo Dosunmu. Both Dosunmu and Riley seem to have strong work ethics that honestly overworked their bodies heading into college. If Riley can follow the development path that Dosunmu laid out, watch out.
