NEWS: Illinois Basketball lands Elite Shooter in Keaton Wagler
Illinois Basketball lands one of the top shooters in the class of 2025
Illinois basketball has landed the commitment of one of the top shooters in the class of 2025. Three-star combo guard, Keaton Wagler, announced on his social media that he will be committing to the University of Illinois after an official visit. Wagler is a 6 foot 6 combo guard from Shawnee, Kansas. Per 247sports, he is currently ranked as the 150th prospect in the class of 2025. Keaton chose Illinois basketball over offers from Drake, Minnesota, and Colorado State. During his junior year, Keaton averaged 12.5 points per game, 6 rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists on 52% FG and 50% 3FG.
The fit?
Keaton Wagler is the first commitment in the class of 2025. Wagler is an elite shooter. In fact, some of our sources told us that Minnesota viewed Wagler as someone similar to current Los Angeles Clippers guard, Cam Christie. Due to his slender frame, Christie was somewhat under-recruited coming out of high school. However, he showed that he was an elite shooter, as a true freshman. Both Christie and Wagler certainly have length; however, they have slender frames. Despite this, Wagler has that same ability to make shots from the perimeter effortlessly. He can catch and shoot, however, can also shoot while on the move.
Christie surprisingly became a one-and-done prospect during his time at Minnesota. Given the paint monsters that Illinois Basketball has, Wagler may be known as one of the top shooters in the conference.
Words from Keaton’s dad, Logan:
“We are beyond proud and excited for Keaton on his commitment to Illinois. This has been his dream for as long as I can remember, and seeing all of his hard work pay off is an unbelievable feeling. Illinois is a perfect fit for him and we are excited to see him grow under such a respected coach and program. We can’t wait to see him in the orange and blue!”
