Breaking News: Illinois Basketball just seemingly can’t catch a break. According to head coach Brad Underwood, talented freshman big man Morez Johnson Jr. is out indefinitely with a broken wrist.
To this point, Johnson has maintained a strong average of 7.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, shooting 66.7% from the floor. Morez added a dominant post presence for the orange and blue, balancing some of the different shooting abilities of Tomislav Ivisic.
The Illini head coach dove further into some of the details of Johnson’s Injury, and gave a brief outlook into his timeline.

Illinois Basketball Coach Brad Underwood on Morez Johnson Jr’s Injury
“Will announce that Morez Johnson is out (vs Wisconsin), and will not play for a good bit.” says the Illini head coach. “He broke his wrist in a fall on that elite blocked shot that he made. He hit the floor pretty hard and was tough enough to bounce up and just say “Tape it,”. That impacted a couple of his close misses at the rim as well late in the game. So, he is in a cast and no timeline to that at this point. We’ll strap it up and have to move forward without his presence.”
Furthermore, Underwood stated, “Feel terrible for that young man. What an incredible play. It’s one of the best I’ve seen in a long time, and unfortunately, that injury happened.”
“So, well go to Madison without him,” Underwood begrudgingly finishes.
