It is safe to say that Marcus Domask was one of the most impactful players in recent Illinois Basketball history. Though players like Ayo Dosunmu, Kofi Cockburn, Terrence Shannon Jr, and others may get the shine for their star play, Marcus Domask was a grand slam transfer portal addition. In one year at Illinois, Domask averaged 15.9 points per game, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.9 assists.
In all, He became irreplaceable on the floor for Illinois. Though a few performances are missing from this list (triple-double in round one of the NCAA tournament, these three games stick out most.
3) vs FAU: Magic at the Garden
This was the first moment that Illinois basketball fans saw what Marcus Domask was fully capable of. He was virtually unguardable and simultaneously provided an immaculate boost to Terrence Shannon Jr’s epic performance. Marcus dropped 33 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists on 15-21 from the field. Domask essentially could not miss and helped Illinois land an early marquee victory.
2)At home vs Northwestern: An Alpha is born
This game against Northwestern was the first high-major battle after the Terrence Shannon Jr news arrived. Illinois Basketball fans were a wreck as many lost hope in their university and the future of the basketball season. However, Domask stepped up to the plate and let all know that he has the reigns. He put up 32 points on 11-15 shooting.
1) On the Road vs Wisconsin: A homecoming for the ages
Domask was the 2019 Mr. Basketball in the state of Wisconsin. Despite this, he barely had any offers out of high school and had to commit to Southern Illinois. Marcus had a game for the ages in front of a Wisconsin basketball crowd and plenty of family members. He led the Illini into another win against Wisconsin with 31 points and 8 rebounds.
