Illini Football: Injury Report Update Entering Eastern Illinois Week
Illinois head coach Bret Bielema celebrates with a supporter as he heads to the locker room after a game against Wisconsin on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wis. Illinois won the game, 34-10, in Bielema’s return to Madison after coaching the Badgers from 2006-2012.Tork Mason/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin Usat Wisconsin Vs Illinois Football 100122 2932 Ttm

Injury Report Notes – Eastern Illinois

Bret Bielema provided an update on the current Illinois Football injury report, in preparation for week one’s matchup vs the Eastern Illinois Panthers. According to Bret, the Fighting Illini have maintained good overall health throughout training camp, and look to be strong in numbers entering 2024.

Certainly, this is a breath of fresh air for Illinois, considering the series of unfortunate injuries that unfolded early in the 2023 season. Undoubtedly, it was a major factor as to why the Illini Football program didn’t bowl last season.

However, Bielema states that the roster is healthy and ready to get to work against the Panthers on Thursday.

On the Injured Reserve:

From an injury standpoint, as of right now, James Kreutz got cleared 2 days ago.” says Bielema. Furthermore, the Illini coach joked “I think he was ready to burn his green jersey…” Of course, in reference to the jerseys injured players are required to wear. “To have 2 Kreutz brothers limited in practice, is not healthy for anybody, but, both James and Josh (Kreutz) are back, cleared 100%. Josh had limited practice last week, but he is full go for this evenings practice. I know he’s excited about that.”

Bret continues “On the offensive line, everybody is back. I know wide receiver there isn’t any issues, nobody limited from participation.”

Close to 100%

The Illini head coach then goes on to say “The only guys that are out, that were projected to play in the game (vs EIU) would be two guys with ACL’s, (TE) Cole Rusk, and (OLB) Mason Muragin.”

Bielema finishes “Other than that, we are 100%.”
