Illinois Football loses director of player personnel Dre Brown to USC
The former Illini heads to a Big Ten Foe.
Illinois Football’s director of Player personnel job is now open. Dre Brown, who was a former Illini, owned the position for the past year and seemed to be thriving on the recruiting trail. However, we all learned that Brown will be moving on to a job with the USC Trojans. Per 247sports/illiniinquirer.com, Brown will serve as the executive director of player personnel and scouting. Illinois football will play the Trojans in Champaign for a Big Ten football game on September 27th. Brown was turning into quite the social media presence as he recruited on the road for Bret Bielema and the Illini. Losing him to a Big Ten foe certainly hurts, however, Bret Bielema is as well equipped as anyone to fill Brown’s shoes.
Impact
Dre Brown had a great Illini career. After missing a significant portion of his early career with season-ending injuries, Brown eventually saw the field and played a significant role on the 2019 team that made a Bowl game. After graduating, Brown served time at Notre Dame and Tennessee.
Former Illinois football players are always beloved down in Champaign. When they come back to work for the school after their playing career, it creates an even bigger bond. That bond certainly grew in the past year when former Illini running back, Dre Brown, served as the director of player personnel. However, opportunities arise, and working at a brand like USC in Los Angeles is certainly a pretty cool opportunity. Hopefully, after some time on the West Coast, Dre Brown can come back home to Champaign, where he is always welcome.
