Illinois Football: Luke Altmyer Earns Big Ten Offensive Player Of the Week

According to the Illinois Football “X” account, Illini QB Luke Altmyer has earned Big Ten Player of the Week for his exceptional play in the Illini’s win over Nebraska on Friday night. Altmyer‘s high-confidence play has been a leading factor in the recent success of Illinois Football. The Illini quarterback has tabbed up an impressive 862 total yards, 10 touchdowns, and zero turnovers through 4 games. There is a positive buzz forming around discussions of Altmyer, as he is proving to be one of the better quarterbacks in the Big Ten and even the country.

Luke was impressive vs the Cornhuskers, and ultimately, his experience got the best of talented true freshman Dylan Raiola. Altmyer capped off the win going 21 for 27, for 214 yards, and 4 touchdowns, with no turnovers.

Earning the Honors

Altymer was superb in the Fighting Illini’s thrilling upset of the Huskers in Lincoln. He looks significantly calmer and more prepared each week compared to last year. Altmyer’s pocket presence has improved and he has a far better command of the entire offense. It certainly does help that two of his top wide receivers are also two of the top wideouts in the Big Ten conference. Additionally, the Offensive line has stepped up significantly this season. Last year, Altmyer always seemed to be on the run and scrambling around.

Bart Miller’s group has had quite the rebound season, which has ultimately helped Luke tremendously.
